Global Strategies is proud to announce a new partnership with the BAND Foundation, a U.S.-based foundation dedicated to shining a light on the public health burden of epilepsy and the risk of mortality from the disease. Through this collaboration, the BAND Foundation has made a grant to support Global Strategies’ work in advancing epilepsy care in under-resourced settings where the disease is most prevalent.
Epilepsy: A Widespread Yet Treatable Condition
Epilepsy affects more than 50 million people worldwide, with nearly 80% living in low- and middle-income countries. Despite its prevalence, treatment gaps remain vast — but epilepsy is highly treatable with timely diagnosis, access to medication, and appropriate care pathways. For children and families, receiving the right care can mean the difference between a life of stigma and disability, and a life with dignity, education, and opportunity.
NoviGuide: A Digital Pathway to Better Care
With support from the BAND Foundation, Global Strategies is expanding NoviGuide—our digital clinical decision-support tool—to include pediatric epilepsy care pathways. In low-resource settings, most children with epilepsy are seen by generalist clinicians. By embedding epilepsy guidance into a tool already widely used at the primary-care level, NoviGuide will equip frontline health workers with step-by-step, evidence-based guidance—ensuring that even where resources are limited, children living with epilepsy can receive the care they need.
